JOURNAL #16 - PACKING LIST FOR TRAVELLING WITH DOGS
Going on weekend adventures with your dogs is great fun but it does need a bit of planning. To help out we’ve put together a packing list to help you make sure you’ve got all the essentials. Click on the Dog Packing List to look at it online or print it out so you can tick it off.
Some of our best weekends away have included taking the dogs on a hiking adventure as they love exploring new scents and sights, and it's a great way for both of you to get some exercise and fresh air. If you’re near the coast don’t forget the beach, no matter what time of the year they can run in the sand, swim in the water, and play fetch by the shore.
Taking your dog away for the weekend can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for both you and your furry friend.
Along with our packing list here are some tips and suggestions to ensure a successful and enjoyable getaway:
Choosing pet friendly accommodation is easy as you can often filter to include taking dogs.
Lots of pubs are happy to welcome dogs if you fancy a meal out or a drink in the pub.
Pack for the weather like you do for yourselves and you have plenty of towels to wipe down wet and muddy dogs. Our duffel bag is great for throwing in wet muddy towels and your mucky boots to keep your car clean.
If you’ve not yet put together a dog 1st Aid Kit, I’d recommend checking out First Aid for pets on the PDSA website.
Enjoy having the time to have quality time with your dog, whether it's playing, cuddling, or simply enjoying the outdoors.
Embrace unplanned detours. Dogs have a way of leading you on unexpected adventures. Whether it's following their nose down a side street or getting overly excited about a squirrel, these detours can add spontaneity and humour to your trip.
Take lots of photos. This could be a good chance to explore different settings, capture moments with your dog, and create lasting memories.
Remember that every dog is different, and their needs and preferences can vary. Pay attention to your dog's cues and adjust your plans accordingly to ensure they have a comfortable and enjoyable trip. And make sure you both get some down time too, so they’re not overstimulated and you get some well earned relaxation. With proper planning and consideration, a weekend getaway with your dog can create lasting memories for both of you.
Have fun !!
