JOURNAL #22 - MOVING FROM WINTER TO SPRING
How do you manage the transition between seasons? Spring is still a little way off but for me February can be tougher to appreciate as the joy of embracing the cosiness of being indoors and novelty of wrapping up warm when venturing outdoors really starts to wear off. I love the outdoors whatever the season, but when the days start getting a bit warmer and you see spring flowers emerging you want to get on and enjoy spring.
Make the change from winter to spring a time to enjoy winter outdoors while you can, don’t dismiss winter completely yet, it’s still here and we’ve had snow and cold weather right into March in previous years. There still may be a chance to build that snowman. Reframing might help by thinking about living with the season and what you’ll actually miss as we move into spring … the light is uniquely beautiful at this time of year, especially on these frosty and snowy days or the freshness of the cold icy air to make your skin feel alive.
The end of winter is the perfect time to start reintegrating outdoor activities into your routine. How about a leisurely stroll through your local park, or maybe a more vigorous hike through the hills? Even just being able to sit outside at a café and watch the world go by.
In our household we’re finishing planning the jobs we’re going to start outside and where we’re going for our next weekend away. Looks like it’s going to be the Yorkshire Dales and we’ve already got at least one walk planned.
Our Muddy Meadow Mallard Teece is great for when the days get warmer but you still need to layer up. The fabric grid pattern of the microfleece its’ made from wicks moisture over the surface of the fabric, while the gaps between the grids catch air to increase insulation and warmth. Depending on the weather I wear mine either as a base-layer or with a long-sleeve top underneath so I can take off my coat and still be warm.
