JOURNAL #7 – WHY YOU NEED TO PACK A HAT
What is your favourite style of hat, and do you wear one solely for practical purposes or as a fashion accessory? When you go travelling, what is the hat that you pack? Personally, for me, a hat must provide a function first, but I still want it to look good and fit well. Baseball style caps do seem to suit me, and I like that they have adjustable straps at the back to get the perfect fit but in winter nothing beats a woollen beanie.
They have been part of our clothing since ancient times and have evolved over the years with some standing the test of time while others are now just kept for special occasions. I imagine you can’t recall the last time you wore a top hat but can remember that favourite tweed cap you wore in winter to keep your head warm.
The Muddy Meadow waxed cotton cap is perfect for both sunny and rainy days. The cotton keeps your head cool with a brim to keep the sun out of your eyes (an invention we can thank the Brooklyn Excelsior’s baseball team for thinking up in the 1860’s). Then on those days when the sunshine turns to rain, the waxed cotton will help keep your head dry so you can keep on gardening or continuing your ramble. Perfect for those four seasons in one day.
Waxed cotton is the original performance fabric and has been around for a century having originally been developed for the sailing industry. This new material made for flexible, warm, durable and waterproof clothing that was quickly adopted by those working in the outdoors and nowadays used in a lot of quality outdoor clothing. The cotton used in our hats is made by Halley Stevensons (@halleystevensons) who have been making outdoor fabrics since 1864 in Dundee, Scotland.
The hats are fully lined, with a padded sweatband for comfort and have an antique brass buckle that is adjustable to ensure a good fit. We kept the logo subtle, with just our duck and have them in two subtle earthy tones to complement your outfit for those of you like me that need that extra bit of style.
So, if you want a hat that keeps you from roasting in the sunshine one minute and then from being drenched in rain the next, then buy yours now in Navy Blue or Brown.
