JOURNAL #9 – THE ADVENTURE BEGINS

Land Rover Defender

Outdoor adventures and Land Rover Defenders go together perfectly.  We have wanted a Defender for a long time but kept letting our head win over our hearts but have now taken the plunge and bought a 2004 Defender 90 TD5.  It’s a classic British four-wheel drive and we have fallen in love with it.  Which we will need reminding of as we keep up with all the servicing and maintenance.

For us it will be the ideal way to go on adventures and getting to those places that we couldn’t before.  This summer we’ll be heading off exploring, hopefully doing some camping, and come Autumn it will be ideal for when the shooting season restarts.

It’s been a while since just sitting in a vehicle makes you feel ready for anything, it brings a smile to your face, plus as soon as you drive past another Defender there’s always that friendly wave or nod of the head.

We have already started to customise it for our needs.  We added a dog guard to take our Labrador everywhere with us and extra storage for weekends away and shooting.  Next is to add some more Muddy Meadow branding and steel wheel tyres freshly painted in old English white for the summer.

For a good website for information and ideas for all things Land Rover check out the Land Rover Monthly Magazine either online or at your local magazine stockist.

This is the start of a long journey and just like our robust outdoor thermal t-shirt, the Mallard Teece, we hope to get lots of mileage, keep dry and get out there whatever the weather.
