JOURNAL #3 – THE MALLARD DUCK & WHAT TO WEAR WHEN IT’S NOT QUITE CHILLY AND NOT QUITE WARM
The original idea for our Microfleece T-shirt was born out of some frustration. We spend a lot of time outdoors and when the temperature drops we wanted some extra warmth but got irritated by constantly pulling up our sleeves. And then add to the mix, a bit of drizzling rain, but not enough for a raincoat.
Product research started with going through our wardrobes looking at different styles of clothes and various fabrics. We’d already decided on a t-shirt, but it needed to be roomy enough to do outside activities in. Various fleece items are already key wardrobe items, so we experimented with different fabric weights and t-shirt shapes to get something that was not too bulky to wear and easy to move around in. There was a bit of trial and error before we settled on microfleece which is much lighter weight than what you’d use for a jacket for example. Another feature of fleece is that it’s water repellent and wicks away sweat. So ideal for any outdoor activities, whether it’s going on walks with the dog, autumn picnics or throwing on after a wild swim. It also is easy to pack so ideal for weekends away.
The first range of colours were inspired by nature and what would also look stylish plus be perfect for layering either underneath with a longer sleeve top or beneath a jacket.
The name ‘Teece’ is a combination of T-Shirt and Microfleece and we named the teece after the Mallard duck that is very common around our area. The Mallard is a bit like our teece with it’s insulating down feathers. Perfect for those days when the weather isn’t quite chilly and isn’t quite warm.
